Enie.nl changes brand name to Soly

Groningen, March 1 – Enie.nl, the Dutch solar energy provider, changes its name to its international brand name, Soly, as it continues its explosive growth and plans to expand to its fifth country this year.

International brand name Soly

Founders and directors are the brothers Patrick and Milan van der Meulen. Milan explains the change: “Because of the ‘.nl’ and the ‘enie’, which evokes associations with the word ‘energy’, enie.nl is a typical Dutch brand name and therefore very recognizable in our home market. This association disappears as you enter other countries. Soly has a logical reference to ‘solar energy’. We are already operating under this name in Belgium and South Africa with growing success. We want to become a recognizable international brand. For this reason, it is time to say goodbye to the brand name ‘enie.nl’. after almost 10 years. That is a historic moment for us”. The company will kickstart the name change with a TV campaign starting March 1.

A growth record

In March 2022, ABP and Shell Ventures took a minority stake in the company. Milan van der Meulen about the growth: ‘’In January and February of this year, our revenue increased tenfold in comparison to the same period last year. It is convincing proof of our scalability and uncompromising focus on our mission: making solar energy accessible for everyone’’. The company starts in the German market this month and is seriously exploring an expansion to the United Kingdom.

Utility of the future

Patrick van der Meulen gives an insight into what is to come: ‘’When we saw the climate documentary An Inconvenient Truth as teenagers, we knew for sure that we wanted to do something about this in our lives. We chose to focus on generating solar energy. To expand this ambition, we will also be focusing on the consumption of the generated energy. And as consumers can also pay per month, we will continue to make solar energy accessible. In this way, we make consumers much more independent of energy from distant sources”.
