Groningen, January 22, 2024 - International solar energy company Soly is entering the Italian market. Founders and brothers Patrick and Milan van der Meulen have appointed Matteo Artero as Country Manager of Soly Italy. He was previously Director of Operations of flash delivery service Getir. It is Soly's sixth country of operation. Soly will hold offices in Milan. The capital of the fastest-growing solar energy region: Lombardy.
Italy is logical step
The Italian government has set a target of at least 30 per cent of energy coming from renewable sources by 2030. Solar energy plays a crucial role in this. In the first half of 2023, Italy already added more than 2.3 gigawatts of solar energy. Almost half came from the installation of solar panels on homes. "All signs are green for a succesful breakthrough of solar energy in Italy, said Patrick van der Meulen, CEO of Soly." It is the first market entry after the company announced € 30 million in funding.
Soly's added value
More than one-and-a-half million solar projects are now connected to the energy grid in Italy. In the Netherlands alone, more than two million households have solar panels. That is exactly the added value of Soly according to co-founder Milan van der Meulen: "The Netherlands is the leader in solar panels in Europe. Our proprietary software platform enables us to answer that demand. We are now demonstrating this in other countries as well. If you look at Italy, you see a traditional solar panel market, full of local installers. The result? Long waiting times and sky-high prices. That doesn't fit with our mission: solar energy should be accessible to everyone. With our modern organization, we are going to make a difference for Italian consumers."
Matteo Artero
The world of high-growth companies is familiar territory for Matteo Artero, the new managing director of Soly Italy. He has a long track record at innovative companies. For instance, he previously held management positions at clothing brand Zara and e-commerce company Amazon. Before his appointment at Soly, he served as operations director of flash delivery service Getir. Matteo has high expectations: "Soly combines innovation and an obsession with customer satisfaction with the mission to make solar energy available to everyone. Italy is at an interesting point; the Italian government continues to drive the energy transition, sustainability awareness is increasing and the digitalization level of Italians is unprecedented. Our goal is to have a positive impact on the environment and maximize savings for our customers. We can't wait to show Italians what Soly has to offer."
